Seduced and Betrayed by Donald Trump

You are probably right, Paul. But whoever is in power invariably betrays the majority of those who elected them. Your own side is no better, although, of course, you cannot see this.

As an inherently tribal animal, our brains evolved to be blindly loyal to its own tribe, which made sense when tribes were real, before being replaced by the state, which is not a genuine tribe or nation at all, but merely poses as such, in order to lay claim to our tribal loyalty, thereby legitimising itself, its ruling elites and the immense power they wield and abuse.

And it is not just the "white working class" that is being betrayed. Blacks are betrayed even more, despite all the Democrats claims to be their champions. Ultimately EVERYONE is betrayed by the STATE, the primary purpose of which is to facilitate society's SELF-exploitation (and self-betrayal), to the personal advantage of its ruling elites and favoured (especially wealthy and academic/formerly priestly) clients, at the expense of society at large and its long-term survival.

This is why civilisation itself (not just particular economies) are bound to a cycle of boom and bust, which ultimately leads to their demise.

Academics' own tribal loyalties blind them to this, making it impossible for social and political scientists to develop a realistic understanding what are supposed to be their subjects of expertise.

Inventing the Irish

I'm an Englishman, but also consider myself a Native Briton, which includes all the Irish. On a larger scale still I see myself as a Native European. And finally, on a global scale, I see myself as "ethnic European", i.e. a white man, with kin all over the world. This is my "race" which I identify with.

This is a very politically incorrect way to feel, I know, but it is how I feel, and how I feel, is how I feel, and I see no good reason to deny it or feel ashamed of it, notwithstanding the huge "moral pressure" one is under to do precisely this, because of the taboo surrounding "race".

Surely, it is perfectly natural to feel an affinity towards those one is most closely related to and shares so much culture and history, as well as prehistory, with. Why do we have a culture which demonises such feelings as "racist"?

It is, I suggest, because the STATE needs its citizens to identify with itself and their fellow citizens, irrespective of race, rather than with the citizens of other states who may be of the same race.

The state fears a sense of racial/tribal identity amongst its different ethnic groups, because it has the potential to undermine its claim to nationhood, which legitimises it, its ruling elites and the immense power they wield and abuse.

The state - even democratic ones - teaches its citizens a very misleading understanding of itself which we would do well to investigate: LINK.

“For most of us, there are pockets and maybe whole sections of our minds and hearts that are not really reality-driven. . . . People don’t want to know what’s behind the curtain, they really don’t.” 

This reminds me very much of our relationship with the STATE. which for centuries has manipulated our inherent and intense tribal nature for its own mercenary purposes, posing as it does, not as a lover, but as our tribe or nation, which evolution adapted our brains to feel a deep yearning for and no less passionate about and loyalty towards.

The modern "nation state" conflates and confounds very different aspects of the original tribal environment in which human nature evolved, long before the first states and civilisations emerged from it. It deceitfully poses as our tribe or nation (intra- and inter-tribal environment) itself, while at the same time facilitating society’s SELF-exploitation (as an extra-tribal environment, i.e. as human resource and market), to the personal advantage of its ruling elites and favoured (especially wealthy and academic) clients, but at the expense of society at large, which, effectively, is being scammed.

It's a form of "self-scamming", of course, which, as in the case of romantic scamming,  our brains are wired to be mugs for, but which ultimately is not just harmful, but self-destructive.
