America never was entirely white, so no one, I'm sure, not even the few genuine white supremacists, imagines making America white again.

America was founded and largely made what it is today by white settlers from Europe. It is still a white majority country in which whites remain the dominant political, cultural, economic, scientific and technological force, but for reasons less noble than they believe, America's ruling elites (themselves overwhelmingly white) have embraced an ideology of racial self-denial and self-contempt.

That millions of ordinary white Americans with a healthy sense of their own ethnic origins and identity are very unhappy about this is entirely understandable. They find themselves in the position of a child with masochistic parents, who want to include it their games of self-flagellation.

It is not just America, of course, but the ruling elites of all western countries which have embraced this ideology, that initially was an overreaction to Nazism and the Holocaust (as well as to Jim Crow and Apartheid), which has been exploited by the state to serve its age-old strategy of “divide and rule”, dividing society into a morally superior, now supposedly "colour-blind", elite and the morally inferior, naturally (human nature being what it is) less colour-blind, masses, who must submit to the authority of and domination by their "moral superiors".

This is a major social and political issue that urgently needs to be recognised and addressed.

"You say you want a revolution? Well.… You know, we want to change your head . . "

What a beautiful Beatles' song that is, even if I've changed the order of the lyrics a little, but not their deep and profound meaning.

The key to revolutionary change, which we are in existential need of, not just in America, but all over the world, is indeed in our heads, i.e. in our understanding of ourselves and socio-political reality, which is currently deeply flawed, because of the taboo a previous generation of academics made of viewing their own species as biologists view every other species on the planet, namely, from an evolutionary perspective.

The reason for this taboo was an understandable, but misconceived, overreaction (especially by Jewish academics, whom the evils of Nazism and the Holocaust impacted far more than most people) to the Nazis having hijacked and abused, for their own evil purposes, the half-baked ideas of social Darwinism.

One can have the best intentions in the world, as I'm sure the Beatles did, but without a sound understanding of ourselves, evolved human nature, and the nature of the societies it has given rise and shape to, we will not be able to solve the world's problems. Understandably, many white Americans are not happy seeing themselves being reduced to an ethnic minority in the country their own forefathers founded and very largely made the huge success it has been (notwithstanding its failings), but the "liberal left" has no understanding for this unhappiness, condemning it as an expression of "white supremacism".

Why should white America share the liberal-left's contempt for its own race, when they have every reason not to?

Where does this contempt come form and what purpose does it serve?

It is, I suggest, an OVERREACTION to the evils of European (white) imperialism, slavery, Jim Crow, Apartheid and, above all, to Nazism and the Holocaust.

This overreaction was understandable, as is the purpose that it now serves, which is as an instrument of socio-political intimidation, rewards, punishments, manipulation and control, just as medieval church ideology once did.

It is the age-old strategy of all states, even democratic ones, of “divide and rule”, dividing society into a morally superior, now supposedly "colour-blind", elite and the morally inferior, naturally (human nature being what it is) less colour-blind, masses, who must submit to the authority of and domination by their "moral superiors".

"Sometimes it’s hard to shake the uneasy feeling that we are witnessing the dissolution of an idea that was once America."

For reasons of ideology, power-politics and personal advantage, it is assumed that "race doesn't matter", or even exist, when clearly it does. You, Mr. Blow, know this better than anyone, but like most people, indulge in Orwellian doublethink.

In fact, Race, i.e. ethnic origins and identity, form the natural basis of shared national identity and genuine nationhood.

America is a myth, a social, i.e. power-political and economic, construct; unlike race (except when you try dividing closely related peoples from the same subcontinent into different races, as the Nazis insanely did), which is REAL and important. Not in the way that racial supremacists believe it is, but because central to any deep and meaningful sense of both personal and group identity.

Like my own country, America is NOT a nation, but a mercenary "patron state" deceitfully posing as a nation, in order to legitimise itself, its ruling elites and the immense power they wield and abuse.

This is a difficult, painful and frightening truth to recognise and face up to, but the truth it is, and the sooner it is faced up to the better.

Why have the academics we look to as authorities in understanding society and civilisation not already done so? Like their medieval predecessors and counterparts, they are themselves privileged clients and employees of the state, with a massive personal self-interest in rationalising its role, self-image (as our "nation") and ideologies (social, political, economic and ethical).

Roger Cohen takes exception to the suggestion that "the Holocaust [was a] mere “white on white crime.”

There was nothing "mere" about it, but it was indeed, in my view, a “white on white crime", an expression of white racial self-hatred and the insanity of Nazi racial ideology, which divided the closely related peoples of Europe (including European Jews) into different races, which clearly they are not.

Or doesn't Roger like the idea of European Jews and gentiles belonging to the same race? I can't image that he prefers Nazi racial ideology, which saw Jews, as well as Poles and Russians, as a different, inferior race from Germans.

The Nazis saw racial differences where they did not exist, and in OVERREACTION to this and the horrors which followed from it, a previous generation of academics (many of them Jews and thus understandably much more affected by the Holocaust than non-Jews) went to the opposite extreme of denying the importance, even the very existence, of race altogether, even where it clearly does exist, as between people whose ethnic origins are on distant continents, e.g. between blacks and whites.

This understandable overreaction was consolidated into the ideology of post-racial multiculturalism (effectively, the exact but equally extreme and insane opposite of Nazi racial ideology), which now serves the state's age-old strategy of “divide and rule”, dividing society into a morally superior, now supposedly "colour-blind", elite and the morally inferior, naturally (human nature being what it is) less colour-blind, masses, who must submit to the authority of and domination by their "moral superiors".

It is an ideology of white racial self-denial and self-contempt, which, like medieval church ideology, with its concept of "original sin", serves the state as an instrument of socio-political intimidation, rewards, punishments, manipulation and control.

In defence of Xenophobia and Nativism

". . the xenophobic politics now inflaming the presidential primary campaign [and] . . venomous nativism coming from Donald Trump . ."

Of course, xenophobia can be nasty, as can nativism, but both are inherent to human nature, which is very tribal. 

Clearly, our tribal nature needs to be controlled in an acceptable and civilised fashion, but this is not what the Editorial Board is advocating. Instead they are DEMONISING it, and with it, human nature itself.

Not so long ago it was human sexuality, i.e. particular forms of it (now deemed a private matter and no business of the state) that was demonised, and before that it was our propensity (inherited from Adam and Eve) to disobey divine, i.e. priestly and state authority, which was demonised as "original sin" and, we were told by the priesthood, would lead to eternal damnation, unless we submitted to church/state authority and ideology.

Human tribalism and prejudices (perfectly natural, in favour of one's own tribe, race or ethnic group) are the new "original sin", which only submission to state ideology and authority (now firmly in the hands of "progressive academia", who are heirs of the medieval clergy) can save us from eternal damnation for, not as heathens or heretics, as in the past, but as "racists", "nativists" and "xenophobes".

Xenophobia is just one side of a single coin, on the other side of which is love of the familiar and one's own.

We should be working WITH human nature, not DEMONISING it as a source of spurious moral authority, power and personal advantage.

The Genius of Conmen Like Donald Trump

"The genius [of conmen like Donald Trump] lies in figuring out what, precisely, it is we want that gives life meaning and how they can present themselves as the perfect vehicle for delivering on that desire.”

This hits the nail squarely on the head, but I'm not sure that the author realises it.

Most of us have a profound desire to belong to a tribe or nation we can identify with, trust and feel proud of, because we evolved as an inherently and intensely tribal animal, which lost its original tribes long ago, when the first states replaced them. Thus, Trump's slogan of "making America great again". 

Only it's not just Trump who manipulates Americans' tribal nature in this way, ALL politicians do, as does the media, right across the political spectrum, and capital (brands being substitute tribes). They all want you to identify with AMERICA as your tribe or nation. Why? Because that is how the SYSTEM works for THEM.

Only America is NOT a genuine nation, but a mercenary "patron state" deceitfully posing as a nation (like all states, including my own), in order to legitimise itself, its ruling elites and the immense power they wield and abuse.

It is surely no coincidence that we trivialise, ridicule or demonise our tribal nature (tribalism!), rather than giving it the serious attention and study it deserves. Thus, is the system able to manipulate and exploit it without us realising what is going on.
